It would help if I could hear the way the words sound. I have assistance from a friend from Finland, but it is limited right now. I would like to hear the sounds to the words and letters. Is there any way you can use wav or something to be able to do this like other websites do for other languages?

I've lived in Finland for over 5 years and am still struggling with the grammer.
But I can say that gathering words (verbs & nouns) is absolutely essential to learning the language.
Only when you have some building blocks (words)in your head can you start to apply the cement (grammer).
So well done Phil for providing a useful tool.
To the person who said it doesn't help with pronouciation- open your door and listen to Finns speaking or just turn on your TV (assuming you live in Finland). It's not that hard.
Try this site <a>

I must agree with the previous poster. This site is good for learning words but does not help with pronunciation. I am also an American living in Finland and I can tell you that words rarely occur in speech as they do in the dictionary. So learning words with out the grammer changes is worthless and won't help. Also how can the server be expensive? Ever heard of apache or mySQL? Also a donation means "VOLUNTARY!!!!!!" When you have to donate its not a donation its a FEE!! The best way to learn Finnish is to speak it from the start. Unfortunately in Helsinki/Espoo/Vantaa a person can get away with speaking English or Swedish. So to anybody who reads this and is wondering why Finnish is so hard to learn, its because you people don't speak it. Don't let people speak English to you. When they speak in English answer in Finnish and I'm sure that you will pick the language up fast.
