Moi kaikki! I’ve setup this blog to make Finnish School announcements and most importantly, gather feedback from you all as how to improve this site. There’s over 24,000 registered students in Finnish School and the only feedback I ever get is “I forgot my password”.
In addition to these things, I hope to discuss issues relating to us foreigners learning Finnish and share some of my experiences with you all. There’s alot of us working very hard to learn the Finnish language and plenty of us having difficulties, I wonder if Finnish is being taught properly and I hope to raise these questions.
So I hope everyone is enjoying the Finnish School program and I really hope to hear more of your thoughts about it. Post your ideas in the comments section or send me an e-mail at the new address: support >>AT>> finnishschool.com

This site sucks you basically already have to know Finnish you don’t even teach us how to pronounce or even teach us any of the words we pretty much have to guess the answer to all the questions this site is terrible and didn’t help one bit.

I must agree with the previous poster. This site is good for learning words but does not help with pronunciation. I am also an American living in Finland and I can tell you that words rarely occur in speech as they do in the dictionary. So learning words with out the grammer changes is worthless and won’t help. Also how can the server be expensive? Ever heard of apache or mySQL? Also a donation means “VOLUNTARY!!!!!!” When you have to donate its not a donation its a FEE!! The best way to learn Finnish is to speak it from the start. Unfortunately in Helsinki/Espoo/Vantaa a person can get away with speaking English or Swedish. So to anybody who reads this and is wondering why Finnish is so hard to learn, its because you people don’t speak it. Don’t let people speak English to you. When they speak in English answer in Finnish and I’m sure that you will pick the language up fast.

I’ve lived in Finland for over 5 years and am still struggling with the grammer.
But I can say that gathering words (verbs & nouns) is absolutely essential to learning the language.
Only when you have some building blocks (words)in your head can you start to apply the cement (grammer).
So well done Phil for providing a useful tool.
To the person who said it doesn’t help with pronouciation- open your door and listen to Finns speaking or just turn on your TV (assuming you live in Finland). It’s not that hard.
Try this site

It would help if I could hear the way the words sound. I have assistance from a friend from Finland, but it is limited right now. I would like to hear the sounds to the words and letters. Is there any way you can use wav or something to be able to do this like other websites do for other languages?

Great site. A hot tip is to use it with google translate that will now give you word pronunciation in finnish so you learn the written and spoken word at the same time. I found it was quick to cut and paste and my rate of learning new words increased and my recognition of the words I knew in speech or when watching TV was faster.
